Have an old friend? Win a Book

Annie and Nora, the two main characters in my soon-to-be released second novel (called "thoroughly entertaining," "honest, unflinching" and "smart and funny" in early praise) I'LL TAKE WHAT SHE HAS, have been friends since kindergarten and their twenty-five year friendship is at the heart of the novel.

Here's my five-year old best friend. A woman who has known every one of my hairstyles. As children, we loved the Frog and Toad books and somehow, I became Frog and she Toad. Today, she is my sister (I don't have one by blood) and our shared history has an incalculable value.

In celebration of lifetime friendships, I am giving away my last ARC (advanced reader's copy) of I'LL TAKE WHAT SHE HAS, signed and shipped (US only), to one lucky person who leaves a comment either here or on my facebook site and tells me a line or two (or more if you wish) about YOUR Annie/Nora friendship of a lifetime.

Sara's college graduation.
Stay tuned for more historical photos!

  1. Oh no. No more historical photos, please. I remember most of my old hairstyles, and don't need to be reminded of them! :)

    1. Ah--hahahaha! How will you ever stop me....
But seriously. I looked at some of the old pictures and *I* have the WORST hair in every single one. How is that possible?

  2. My best friend, Diane, was more like a soul sister than a friend. We grew up together, always were together and told each other everything. We went to college together and even raised our kids together. Unfortunately she was taken from us a few years ago when she passed giving birth to her daughter. I know she's still looking down at me and laughing when I do something silly.

    1. Marlene, my heart goes out to you! Are you connected with her daughter? I think a sister (a person) is forever. I am sure she is still with you! Thank you for telling us a piece of her and your story.

  3. My dear friend Annette has been there for me through some of the darkest, and brightest moments of my life. We didn't become friends until I was in high school, but since that time, she has become the sister of my heart. Her friendship is without price and I would do anything for her (and have) - including watching her 4 little girls for a weekend so she could get some much needed get-away time with her husband. I can't imagine my last 15+ years without her.

    1. Four daughters? What a lucky woman! And to have a friend like you, too! I think our friendship shows up in that real care-taking. Thanks for sharing about her.

  4. My friend, Margie and I have been friends for 51 years, since first grade. We were classmates and neighbors from first grade through 12th. I met my husband through her husband. I was in her wedding, she was in mine. We don't see each other very often, but when we do, it's like hasn't passed at all!

  6. My "oldest-bestest" is what I call mine...her name is Teresa, and we've been friends since 6th grade, when she drew me a picture of a dog and passed it to me my first day in a new school. So much history together!
